PENDIDIKAN ISLAM DALAM MEMBANGUN SIKAP TOLERANSI DI TENGAH MASYARAKAT MULTIKULTURAL

Abstrak

Indonesian society is rich in diversity, encompassing differences in ethnicity, language, culture, and religion. This diversity presents unique challenges for the nation and the state. Islamic education plays a crucial role in fostering an attitude of tolerance within this diverse society. This study aims to address three research questions: (1) What is the concept of tolerance in Islamic teachings?; (2) What role does Islamic education play in building an attitude of tolerance within a multicultural society?; and (3) What are the challenges and solutions for Islamic education in realizing tolerance in a multicultural society? The study employs a library research method, gathering data from various books, journals, and written sources relevant to the topic. The findings indicate that: first, Islam possesses a robust concept of tolerance rooted in the Qur'an and Hadith, emphasizing respect for differences and diversity. Second, Islamic education plays a significant role in shaping an attitude of tolerance by instilling universal Islamic values, developing a multicultural-oriented curriculum, and fostering a habit of mutual respect in daily life. Third, the challenges faced include narrow religious understandings, the influence of social media, and a lack of interfaith dialogue; these can be addressed through character education, strengthening the curriculum's content on tolerance, and enhancing the roles of teachers and Islamic educational institutions.
