This article is written with the aim of highlighting the value of obedience to one’s conscience in the context of Jesus’ trial and intends to look at the role of reason which tends to dominate an individual in making decisions that are sometimes wrong. The method used in this paper is a qualitative research method and literature study, based on several books, the Holy Bible and scientific articles. Based on philosophical reflection in Thomas More’s perspective, with three key words namely; conscience, reason, and Jesus’ court, there are several important findings as follows: there are two models of obedience in the context of Jesus’ court, namely, obedience to reason which prioritizes traditions and laws made by the ancestors of the Jewish people, and true obedience of conscience. Apart from that, there is a meaning of God’s will that cannot be understood by human reasoning abilities, and can only be understood with the faith inherent in the conscience. Therefore, it can be concluded that Jesus’ death was not a ridiculous death, but rather a death due to obedience of conscience to God’s will for the salvation of all mankind.
